~Calligramme Project - My Sea Turtle~


As you can see below, I designed a sea turtle. I wanted to keep the layout simple, yet colorful. I have always depicted the ocean to be vibrant, happy, and full of life. I chose to design it looking down because I based it on a picture from memory. Although I am from Louisville, Ky, Sarasota, FL is considered my second home because it is where my grandparents live. When I was a child, we would frequently travel throughout the area, specifically Long Boat Key. This past spring, I was in Sarasota on a bridge trying to take a photo of the beautiful seawater, and out of nowhere, a sea turtle popped up for a few seconds before swimming back to the bottom. I was amazed because it was the first sea turtle I had ever seen in its native habitat. The turtle I created represents my childhood, my recent memory, and the little kid inside of me.

My depiction of a sea turtle is not intended to create conflict, but inspire people to take care of the little guys. I have been an avid swimmer ever since I was a child, so I loved taking trips to the beach to swim in the ocean. However, as the years have passed, I have found less joy in going to the beach because of how polluted the water is becoming with plastic and trash. Additionally, this is impacting the lively hood of the sea turtles. They are very vulnerable creatures who are becoming more vulnerable because of our destructive actions. I hope this depiction of a sea turtle inspires people to become more mindful of their waste so we can keep the beaches beautiful and the sea turtles safe.

Illustrator CC - Self Portrait "Be True. Be You. Be Kind." I believe mantras inspire and give confidence to people so they can do or become whatever their heart desires. Photoshop - Somewhere

Photoshop ~Somewhere~ Somewhere, a place that we were asked to place ourselves. The purpose of this piece is to put ourselves in an area that we would love to be or haven't been. Above, is either a picture that was taken from a drone or a helicopter. Accurately, this photo captures the NYC Marathon runners. I chose this photo because I want to one day run a marathon. As a retired student-athlete, I love competing and training for a goal.   Above is the picture I chose for myself. I had a friend sit on top of their car and take this for me with their iPhone. We both thought it was a great idea to run with the sun beaming down on my right side to create the correct running shadow. I chose to use an iPhone for capturing this to match the blurry effect as much as possible. I will say I enjoyed choosing this for my first somewhere experiment because it wasn't overly challenging. InDesign - Business Cards

InDesign ~Business Cards~ For this project, we were asked to create three business cards through InDesign while incorporating the previous logo we made in Illustrator CC. The three layouts I designed are below! Business Card 1 - Front Business Card 1 - Back For this first card, I wanted to keep the layout clean and sleek while still being creative. I didn't want my logo to be on the front of my card because I felt as though it would be too cramped. Therefore, I chose to keep the front, simple and sleek while still maintaining the design. Also, the footprints guide the viewer's eyes to the edge of the card, which would cue them to flip it over to find my information. Honestly, this is my favorite design out of all three.
